Phakic intraocular lens implantation

Имплантация факичных интраокулярных линз

In recent years, the boundaries of refractive surgery have widened and today we have a new opportunity for patients with high degrees of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and for those who had contraindications for laser correction because of the individual characteristics of their visual system. Phakic lens implantation is also one of the possible ways to correct age-related presbyopia.

Advantages of this correction method:
  • Personalization (lens is chosen according to your individual parameters considering the results of the diagnostic examination)
  • Implantation is made through a self-sealing micro-incision
  • minimum period of rehabilitation
  • UV protection for retina
  • Operation is reversable!

A phakic lens is Implanted into the eye without taking out your own lens, preserving natural accommodation of the eye, and allows to see objects both near and far. This method is more physiological in comparison with lens extraction and it is reversible. While contact lenses are put on the cornea, phakic lens are implanted into the eye.

Имплантация факичных интраокулярных линз

This correction method is recommended in following cases:
  • Myopia up to −30.0 diopters
  • Hyperopia up to +15.0 diopters

  • Astigmatism up to 8.0 diopters
  • Thin cornea
  • To stabilize visual acuity after keratoconus treatment (after crosslinking or intralamellar implantation of corneal segments)
  • After keratoplasty

  • Contraindications for implantation:

    • Corneal dystrophy or opacity;
    • cataract;
    • lens subluxation;
    • glaucoma or high intraocular pressure;
    • small anterioe chamber (less than 2,5 mm);
    • retinal or vitreous body disorders;
    • retinal, vitreous body or antiglaucoma surgery in the past;
    • chronic inflammation of the choroid of the eye.

    • When performing phakic IOL implantation, there is a possibility of inaccuracy in calculating lens strength and optical zone decentering. To avoid this, St. Petersburg branch performs a detailed vision diagnostics using a whole complex of the most modern computerized equipment, which helps to obtain an objective and complete picture of the patient's vision state, and to calculate the precise parameters in order to make the right choice of the phakic lens.
